It was of course larger and there was more interaction this time with everyone. Although we are so different in personality and hobbies and profession we all share this one common bond, Achromatopsia. No one, but someone with this eye condition can understand our day to day living with Achromatopsia. There was a strong connection I felt at this convention. The adaptive technology presentation was wonderful as well as all the speakers, technical or otherwise. It was great to see after the first day the “young people” sitting together on the first row the next two days. :) What a wonderful thing now that we can all stay “networked” together through email & Face Book!!

I am a patient of Dr. Richard Windsor and he made a comment to me when I was there getting my red contacts. He said, “I noticed one thing about all of the people with Achromatopsia, they all seem to be extremely intelligent.” (I knew he was my favorite eye doctor after that) Seriously, we had to rely so much on our memorization skills in order to get by in the “sighted” world that I think it did work to our advantage on the intelligence scale. I was happy to meet people I have chatted with on the Yahoo group website and to make more friends at this convention. There is hope for a cure for Achromatopsia and I feel confident that some of those “young people” at this last convention may someday be experiencing color and good vision in their lifetime. Where there is life, there is hope!
